Alright, I know what you’re thinking. Is there really anything mystic at Mystic Dunes Golf Club in Orlando, Florida? Well, maybe not in the sense of suspending belief, but there is one heck of a golf course. Mystic Dunes is a 7,012 yard par 71 monster designed by Gary Koch. This Golf Digest 4 star and Golfweek Best Resort Course winner snakes its way through the rolling terrain of old Central Florida wetlands and orange groves. If you were ever in this area before Orlando’s most famous resident moved in, you will be able to identify with orange groves and wetlands everywhere.Mystic Dunes is famous for being in pristine condition, and having some of the most challenging greens anywhere this side of the PGA Tour. There are 5 sets of tee boxes which can accommodate golfers of all skill levels. The black tees are reserved for professionals and very low handicap amateurs. But trust me, the challenge is only slightly diminished by going forward. There are several blind tee shots and even the fairways you can see remind you to bring your “A” game Shots hit onto the undulating and sloping fairways need to be placed accurately to set up clean approach shots. The Amount of elevation change found at Mystic Dunes may surprise visitors from other areas. Many people have a picture of Florida resort golf as all flat, uninspired, and boring with a side order of palm trees. Mystic Dunes serves as a reminder of why this area of Central Florida is often referred to as “ The Ridge”. Mystic Dunes Golf Club flies in the face of boring resort golf. This challenging and enjoyable course is ideal for good shot makers; yet is still playable for double digit handicappers. The scenery alone is spectacular, and when you mix in one very well designed and thoroughly challenging golf course; you have all the ingredients for a great round of golf.
